Take it from me, who spent five months studying and living there: Bologna has a fantastic local music scene. In such a transient city due to its university student population, Palco Numero Cinque has stuck around, and it’s paying off.
The five-piece formed in 2009 and started out primarily doing cover songs. They came out with their first EP of original music in 2012, and have since been gaining recognition all over the local scene. They’ve won several music contests, played all the main stages in Bologna, worked on the soundtrack to an upcoming film, and have even shared the stage with bands like Lo Stato Sociale.
Now, Palco Numero Cinque is set to release their very first full-length album, Carta Straccia (meaning ‘waste paper’) sometime next month, on Bologna-based Irma Records. Their music has a pure, energetic alternative rock sound, and this new album will be, in their own words, existential and introspective.
Once again, take it from me, who got to see them play a couple years back at a local October beer fest: Palco Numero Cinque has an undending, fun energy to their music, whether it’s cover or original. To celebrate, they will be hosting an album release party on November 14th at the venue Arteria in Bologna. It’s a great spot and will have great music, so be sure not to miss it if you’re in town!
